Students may suspend their enrolment for exceptional reasons such as:
- Chronic disabling illness,
- Maternity,
- Long-term illness,
- National service,
- Family obligations (relating to ascendants and/or descendants, relocation of spouse or parents due to work, etc.).
A certificate of academic leave must be issued by the competent authority at their institution.
A reasoned request for academic leave must be submitted to the teaching department of the relevant institution before the first examinations, except in cases of force majeure.
Academic leave may only be granted once during the course of study.
At the end of academic leave for medical reasons, reinstatement is subject to the opinion of a medical expert appointed by the higher education institution.
