Enrollment
Admission to postgraduate doctoral programmes (LMD doctorate) is via a written entrance examination. This is a national examination and is organised at the institution authorised by an annual ministerial decree.
The eligibility criteria for the entrance examination for doctoral programmes are laid down by regulation:
- Hold a Master’s degree or a foreign qualification recognised as equivalent.
- The subject area of the degree must correspond to the field of the open competitive examination
Generally, the organisation of the competitive examination takes place in four stages:
- Announcement of the competitive examination and call for applications
- Registration and submission of applications via the PROGRES platform
- Review of application compliance
- Organisation of the written examination
- Announcement of results following validation by the faculty/institute’s academic bodies
Enrolment in the first year of the third-cycle doctoral programme
- Enrolment for the first year of the third-cycle doctoral programme must take place within a maximum of 15 days from the announcement of the examination results.
- Enrolment applications for the first year of those admitted via the entrance examination must be submitted to the relevant faculty or institute. They are forwarded to the Vice-Rectorate responsible for doctoral training following approval by the faculties and institutes’ academic bodies, and subsequent approval by the doctoral training committees and the academic bodies of the faculty/institute.
The application pack for the first year consists of:
- An extract from the minutes of the Scientific Council of the faculty or institute
- An extract from the minutes of the department’s scientific committee
- A certificate of enrolment to be signed by the Vice-Rector responsible for doctoral training
- The registration form bearing the signatures of the student, the research supervisor and the head of department
- Summary of the research topic signed by the thesis supervisor and the co-supervisor (if applicable).
- Submission of the thesis title, summary and keywords in paper form via the National Digital Thesis Registration Portal (PNST)
- Sworn declaration of non-enrolment at another institution
- A copy of university degrees (Bachelor’s, Master’s) and a copy of the baccalaureate (certificate of equivalence for degrees obtained abroad)
- Birth certificate
- Minutes of the doctoral training committee
- Minutes of the announcement of results for the entrance examination to third-cycle doctoral training
- Annual registration fees (200 DA)
- 2 passport-sized photographs
- Employer’s authorisation for employees to undertake doctoral training
- Descriptive appendix to the Master’s degree
Re-enrolment in the 2nd and 3rd years of the third-cycle doctoral programme
NB: Re-enrolment in the 4th and 5th years is subject to special permission
- Extract from the minutes of the Scientific Council of the faculty/institute
- Extract from the minutes of the department’s scientific committee
- Certificate of enrolment signed by the dean of the faculty or the director of the institute
- The re-enrolment form signed by the PhD student, the supervisor and the head of department
- The progress report signed by the supervisor and the chair of the Scientific Council
- The PhD student’s record book with the necessary endorsements
- Registration fees (200 DA)
- Application for extension of registration for the 4th and 5th years
